Exploring Geometry Shapes Interactively

Geometry begins with shapes — and shapes are everywhere. From the hexagons in a honeycomb to the rectangles of windows and doors, children live in a world of geometry long before they study it formally. This interactive shape explorer lets students examine two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, count their sides, vertices, and edges, and discover the properties that define each shape family.

Understanding shapes is more than memorizing names. Students need to identify shapes by their properties: a rectangle is any quadrilateral with four right angles, not just the elongated shape in their textbook. This tool lets students manipulate shapes — stretching, rotating, and comparing — to build the flexible geometric thinking that the Common Core Standards emphasize.
