World Languages for Kids

Learning a second language is one of the most valuable skills a child can develop. Research shows that children who learn languages at a young age develop stronger cognitive abilities, better problem-solving skills, and greater cultural empathy. The window for effortless language acquisition is widest during childhood, making elementary school an ideal time to begin exploring new languages.

Spanish for Kids

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world by native speakers and the most commonly taught foreign language in American schools. Our Spanish Basics tool introduces kids to essential vocabulary including numbers, colors, greetings, animals, and common phrases. Each word includes audio pronunciation so students can hear and practice correct Spanish sounds. Spanish and English share many cognates โ€” words that look and sound similar โ€” which makes Spanish one of the most accessible languages for English-speaking children to learn.

French for Kids

French is spoken by over 300 million people worldwide and is an official language in 29 countries across five continents. Our French Basics tool covers fundamental vocabulary and phrases that give kids a foundation for further study. Students learn numbers, colors, greetings, family words, and animals with interactive flashcards and pronunciation guides. French has contributed thousands of words to English, so students often discover they already know more French than they think.

American Sign Language (ASL)

American Sign Language is a complete, natural language used by approximately 500,000 people in the United States and Canada. Unlike spoken languages, ASL uses hand shapes, facial expressions, and body movements to communicate. Our ASL Alphabet tool teaches kids to fingerspell all 26 letters, which is the foundation for learning ASL. Fingerspelling is used for proper nouns, technical terms, and any word that does not have a dedicated sign. Learning ASL builds inclusivity and gives children the ability to communicate with Deaf and hard-of-hearing peers.

All language tools are free, require no login, and work on any device. They are designed for elementary and middle school students and make a great starting point for language exploration at home or in the classroom.
