P — Pause
Stop and take a breath before saying or doing anything. Cool down first.
E — Explain your feelings
Use "I feel..." statements. Say "I feel hurt when..." not "You always..."
A — Ask for their perspective
Listen to understand the other person. They have feelings too!
C — Come up with solutions
Brainstorm together. What could BOTH people do differently?
E — End with agreement
Pick a solution you both feel OK about. Shake hands or high five!

About This SEL Activity

This free social-emotional learning (SEL) tool helps students develop self-awareness, empathy, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Research consistently shows that SEL programs improve academic achievement, reduce behavior problems, and help students build healthier relationships.

Interactive SEL activities provide a safe space for students to explore emotions, practice communication skills, and develop resilience. All activities are age-appropriate for elementary students and align with CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) frameworks.

How to Use

Work through the activity above at your own pace. There are no wrong answers — the goal is reflection and growth. Teachers can use this during morning meetings or advisory periods. Parents can use it to start conversations about feelings and relationships.
