π About the Definition Finder
The Definition Finder gives kids and parents a kid-friendly meaning for any word, with the part of speech, syllable breakdown, and three example sentences pitched at three different reading levels. The headline 1,002-word corpus was written by hand for K-8 readers β no SAT vocabulary, no adult thesaurus residue, no jargon. Type any word into the search box at the top of this page and the matching entry loads instantly without a page reload.
Every definition page is paired with sibling pages showing synonyms, antonyms, rhymes, sentence examples, and the syllable breakdown for that same word, so kids can follow a curiosity thread without losing their place. When the looked-up word isn't in the curated corpus, the finder falls back to a 63,730-word American-English dictionary so common words always return a result, even if they're not part of the K-8 hand-curated set.
Best used for homework looking up an unfamiliar word, vocabulary warm-ups at the start of a reading lesson, or settling "what does that actually mean?" mealtime arguments. Teachers can deep-link directly to any word with ?word=happy in the URL.
