Free interactive math tools aligned with Common Core standards

Kindergarten math is all about building number sense β€” the deep, intuitive understanding that numbers represent real quantities and that those quantities can be compared, combined, and taken apart. Research shows that a child's number sense at the end of kindergarten is one of the strongest predictors of math achievement through elementary school, which is why these foundational skills matter so much.

Our kindergarten math tools focus on the two critical areas defined by the Common Core State Standards: understanding whole numbers through counting, comparing, and simple operations (addition and subtraction within 10), and identifying and describing shapes. Every tool uses concrete visual models β€” ten frames, number bonds, counting objects, and shape manipulatives β€” because kindergartners learn math by seeing it and touching it, not by memorizing procedures.

🔢
Counting & CardinalityCount to 100, write numbers 0–20, compare quantities using "more," "less," and "equal" β€” the foundation of all number work
OperationsAdd and subtract within 10 using objects, fingers, drawings, and number bonds β€” building fluency through visual models
🔷
GeometryIdentify circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles β€” describe positions (above, below, beside) and compose simple shapes

📚 Tips for Parents & Teachers

Count everything, everywhere. The most powerful kindergarten math activity doesn't require a screen β€” it's counting real objects throughout the day. Count stairs, crackers, toy cars, and buttons. Ask "how many?" constantly. Then use our counting tools to reinforce the same skills digitally, giving kids two complementary ways to build number sense.

Focus on understanding, not speed. At this age, a child who slowly and carefully counts 8 objects has stronger math foundations than one who rapidly recites numbers without connecting them to quantities. Let your kindergartner take their time with these tools β€” understanding beats memorization every time.

Play with shapes in the real world. After using the Shapes & Colors tool, go on a "shape hunt" around the house or neighborhood. How many rectangles can you find? Is a pizza a circle or not? These conversations build the geometry vocabulary and spatial reasoning that kindergartners need.
