About the B.E.S.T.

Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards replaced Common Core in 2020 with an emphasis on mathematical thinking and strong foundational literacy. Our tools align with B.E.S.T. benchmarks across math, ELA, and science. The tables below show which SmartOnlineGames tools support each standard area. All tools are free, browser-based, and require no login β€” just click and start practicing.

Understanding Florida B.E.S.T. Standards

Florida adopted the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) standards in 2020, replacing the previous Florida Standards (which were closely related to Common Core). B.E.S.T. standards are organized into benchmarks that define specific, measurable skills students should master at each grade level. Math benchmarks emphasize computational fluency, algebraic thinking, and real-world application, while ELA benchmarks focus on foundational reading skills, knowledge-building, and writing across genres.

How SmartOnlineGames Supports B.E.S.T.

Our interactive tools are mapped to Florida B.E.S.T. benchmarks in the table above, making it easy for Florida teachers and families to find standards-aligned practice. The visual, interactive nature of our tools directly supports the B.E.S.T. math emphasis on conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency β€” students don't just calculate answers, they see why the math works.

Florida homeschooling families can use these tools to supplement their chosen curriculum with standards-aligned interactive practice. Since B.E.S.T. standards are publicly available through CPALMS (the state's official standards repository), families can cross-reference the benchmarks listed above with the full standard descriptions to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Florida State Standards and SmartOnlineGames

Florida uses the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards for mathematics and ELA, which replaced the previous Florida Standards. For science, Florida follows the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS). These frameworks emphasize conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application.

Our interactive tools align with B.E.S.T. mathematics benchmarks across all grade levels. The visual approach of our math tools directly supports B.E.S.T.’s emphasis on mathematical thinking and reasoning.

Supporting B.E.S.T. Implementation

The B.E.S.T. standards place particular emphasis on automaticity with math facts and procedural fluency at every grade level. Our drill-based tools address these fluency benchmarks, while our visual tools build the conceptual understanding that B.E.S.T. requires alongside procedural skill.

Florida teachers can use the alignment table above to identify which tools address specific benchmarks in their grade-level scope and sequence. The tools work well as independent practice stations or math center rotations.
