Understanding Michigan Academic Standards
Michigan's academic standards define the knowledge and skills students should develop across Kβ12 education. Michigan adopted standards closely aligned with the Common Core for math and ELA, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) also maintains social studies standards built on the C3 Framework. Student progress is measured through the M-STEP assessment in grades 3β8 and the PSAT/SAT in high school.
How SmartOnlineGames Supports Michigan Standards
Each tool above is mapped to specific Michigan academic standards, covering math domains from Kβ8 and NGSS disciplinary core ideas. Our interactive tools are especially effective for building the conceptual understanding that Michigan's standards emphasize β rather than memorizing procedures, students explore visual models that make abstract math concepts concrete and memorable.
Michigan teachers can assign specific tools as homework practice, station rotation activities, or whole-class demonstration tools using a projector. All tools work offline after initial load and require no student accounts, making them suitable for districts with varying technology infrastructure and student privacy requirements.
Michigan State Standards and SmartOnlineGames
Michigan uses the Michigan Academic Standards, closely based on the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and ELA. For science, Michigan follows the Michigan Science Standards (MSS), adapted from the Next Generation Science Standards.
Our math tools directly support the Michigan Academic Standards’ emphasis on both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. Michigan’s standards explicitly call for students to use visual models, explain their reasoning, and connect mathematical ideas.
Supporting Michigan Students
Michigan’s M-STEP assessment measures student mastery through a combination of selected-response and constructed-response questions. Our tools help students prepare for both formats by building deep understanding needed for constructed responses and fluency needed for selected-response performance.
The alignment table above shows Michigan teachers exactly which tools address which standards. The tools are free, browser-based, and require no software installation.
